Erica and Michael were traveling to Manhattan to watch the K-State vs. Auburn game on Thursday, September 18th. Michael had ordered the ring online and it arrived at his office Wednesday afternoon. He left it there overnight so Erica would not suspect anything. When he got to work Thursday morning, a window was broken out of his office and the police were there asking questions. For one fleeting minute, Michael just knew someone had broken in to steal the ring! But it was safely locked in the drawer where he left it and no one actually made it in to the office to steal anything. Thursday was off to a wonderful start for Michael!
When Michael got off work at noon Thursday, they drove to Manhattan in a rush to meet Megan, Andrew and Kylee at the tailgate before the game. Michael’s friend AJ had an extra set of tickets given to him by Bill Snyder’s secretary, so Michael told Erica they needed to pick them up at Anderson Hall, on campus (weird, but okay).
They had driven through construction, so were already pressed for time. It was hot, they were in a hurry and Michael decided to park very far away from Anderson so there was quite a walk through campus.
Erica elected to wait in the car.
“Get out and come with me!” Michael made Erica run through campus on the way to Anderson, because “hurry!”
As they were running up the hill, Michael stopped and pulled the ring out of his wallet.
Michael got down on one knee and asked Erica to marry him in front of Anderson Hall on campus.
They had both gone to K-State, and both loved it there.
He told her he waited until she left for work Tuesday night and drove down to Sharon to surprise Marilyn — and ask her if he could marry Erica.
Michael and Erica drove to the tailgate and met Megan and Andrew, who were waiting with champagne (Michael had told everyone)!
Michael’s parents Elaine and Jay Edwards also met them at the tailgate and took them out for drinks after the game, to celebrate.
